I had two sets of twins about 34 years ago and have had bladder problems ever since. These were exacerbated by a car crash which left me an incomplete paraplegic. Although I saw a Continence Nurse, his best suggestion was an indwelling catheter and bag system instead of pads.
The Spinal Unit suggested CIC and although I had other problems at the time – being incontinent had taken over my life. I found CIC with a LoFric catheter easy to do and it totally transformed my life.
I see myself “before” and “after” CIC as two different people. Before, I wore diapers, always took a change of clothes with me in case of accidents, was in pain because of bladder distension, suffered from kidney infections, wore unattractive clothes, and always thought I was really smelly.
After learning CIC, I took control of my lifestyle again, l lost weight, changed my hair color, and felt able to take pride in myself again. Best of all, there is no fear of being wet at an inappropriate time.
