LoFric is just as slippery going in as it is coming out
The LoFric catheter has a surface layer that can absorb water. That is why it is so slippery and moist when you soak it in water. Other types of catheters need to be lubricated with a lubricant before use, making them smeary. Furthermore, the lubricant has often been rubbed off when it comes time to pull the catheter out making it chafe and feel rough when removing.
LoFric's soft surface stays soft during the entire bladder emptying procedure, and reduces discomfort.
World-unique method
The actual idea of using a catheter that binds to water is so unique that Astra Tech, the makers of LoFric, patented the idea and called it Urotonic Surface Technology.
The most difficult word in the world?
The reason why you almost can't feel the catheter when you insert it is because its surface is made of - polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and salt. Could that be the most difficult word in the world to pronounce? When PVP and salt come in contact with water, they share many properties with urine. This makes LoFric just as slippery going in as it is coming out.
